I just booked a 2 night screening in partnership with the Mayhew Cabin organization. The Mayhew cabin was occupied by John Kagi’s sister and her family. Kagi was an abolitionist newspaper reporter and lieutenant in John Brown’s Kansas Militia. He was with Brown on the last raid to free Missouri slaves in 1858. John Brown and the Freedom Seekers ate a breakfast prepared by his sister, Barbara Mayhew on that trip. The Mayhew family had to suspend helping Freedom Seekers after Brown’s stop because of increased attention from pro-slavery supporters. The cabin was maintained as a tourist attraction in Nebraska City, Nebraska from the early 1900s until today.
