Reminder the Mayhew Cabin Juneteenth celebration is coming. The Mayhew Cabin will host its annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 27th from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Juneteenth is the oldest known holiday that commemorates the end of American slavery. The event will include living history demonstrations, music programs, and Civil War reenactors throughout the day. At 11 a.m. Abraham Lincoln reenactor Lee Williams will do a first person presentation of the President. Then at 2 p.m., Charles Pace, nationally known speaker, will present a first person program as Frederick Douglass. This program is funded in part by Humanities Nebraska and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment. In addition, the museum will host a reception Friday night, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. with a program about the history of Juneteenth. The entire event will take place on the museum grounds located at 2012 4th Corso in Nebraska City, NE. Admission to the event is free.
